It was a great morning attending District Meeting in Görlitz. The zone
leaders, Elders Künzli and Ott were there for trade-offs, Elder Sheppard,
the District Leader, led a discussion on the importance of the Holy Ghost
in the work. It was a beautiful morning in a historic city.
The city of Görlitz is a historic city in many ways. The city was first documented in 1376. The Reichenbacher Turm is the tallest of the remaining of the guard towers. Görlitz sits on the Polish border, this river shows Germany on the left and Poland on the right.
In 1968 the first General Authority of the Church to visit Görlitz, that we know of, was Elder Thomas S. Monson. It was his first visit to the German Democratic Republic. As he stood at the pulpit and addressed 235 members, tears came to his eyes as he made a promise to the people, "If you will remain true and faithful to the commandments of God, every blessing any member of the Church enjoys in any other country will be yours." Later that night, as he realized what blessings had been promised, he dropped to his knees in prayer. The scripture came to his mind, "Be still, and know that I am God." Psalms 46:10
