Zone Conference - "Rise to Your Call"
We had a terrific week with Zone Conference visits. “Rise to Your Call”, a talk by Pres. Eyring was the chosen topic. Elder Lutter and Elder Killpack presented this right at the beginning to set it as the common thread for the Zone Conference. Sister Pimentel shared her impressions of the Mission President Training Seminar and the love poured out to prepare mission presidents for their service to the missionaries.
We discussed the magnitude of the call of an Elder and a Sister as a full time missionary. Remember that you were called by the Prophet and, in effect, sustained at General Conference, and set apart with delegated authority from a General Authority of the Church. Rising to your call means we do missionary work and we become missionaries.

"Forward with Faith"
“Forward with Faith” is the message I, Sister Pimentel, gave the missionaries this past week. I described the experience President Pimentel and I had with the youth of our stake as we participated in a Pioneer Trek. Just like the pioneers of old, we wore pioneer clothing, cooked food outdoors and slept under the stars. We helped the youth push and pull a handcart loaded with the group's belongings. It was hot and the trail was rough and it was hard work. Then I began to wonder, “Why am I doing this?” The realization was that I, and so many other adults, did this because of the youth. We did it because of our love for them and our testimony of the reestablished Gospel of Jesus Christ. We wanted the youth to feel what we feel and to know what we know. This experience taught about faith, hard work, helping each other, sacrifice and more.
As missionaries we too may have times when we are hot, uncomfortable and wonder why we are serving. When we have these feelings we need to remember that it is because we love the people of Germany. We want them to feel what we feel and to know what we know – that God lives, Jesus is the Christ and the gospel of Jesus Christ has been reestablished on the earth today. As said by President Monson, “Remember this is the Lord’s work, and we are on the Lord’s errand…we are entitled to the Lord’s help.” The heavens rejoice because of our work. Let us go “forward with faith.”
The Love of God
President Pimentel’s first message to the missionaries was about the Love of God. He explained that a plain paper cup full of water can be set in a campfire or in the hot coals of a bbq and won’t burn if it’s completely full. Each of us has a cup (the cup of our lives) that is well over half full with the Love of God. God’s love is not conditional no matter what we do or don’t do. He quoted President Hinckley, “God does not love us because we are lovable, have a pleasing personality or a good sense of humor, or at rare times show exceptional kindness.” No matter how unlovable we may feel, He pours His love out into our lives. The life and mission of the Savior are a big part of the Love of God. (John 3:16 and 1 Nephi 11:20-22)
We have the ability to add more water to the cup of our lives – to fill it up and overflowing – with the love we develop and direct toward God. This is done by loving God so much that we keep the commandments and have the love spill over to those around us. (D&C 59:5, John 14:15, Mosiah 4:12, Matt. 22:36-40, 2 Nephi 31:20) Joseph Smith said, “A man filled with the love of God is not content with blessing his family alone, but ranges through the whole world, anxious to bless the whole human race.”
God truly loves us. His love includes the Savior, his atonement and mission. We have every right to be optimistic and see the cup as more than half full. Our cups do not burn when they are full and we fill it the rest of the way by the love we show toward God. We are filled with the Love of God and it spills over as we love and serve our neighbors, our fellow children of God here upon the earth.
